Every year, McKee PTA designs a yearbook with highlights from the school year. The yearbook is printed in Full Color, and students have the opportunity to participate in a Yearbook Cover Design contest. Parent volunteers take photos throughout the year and also help design pages for the yearbook. Yearbooks go on sale in the Spring and are distributed to the students during the last week of school.

Every year, McKee PTA buys every student and teacher at McKee Elementary one Scholastic book during the month of their birthday. (Students with summer birthdays are given their books at the end of the school year.)
This program is funded by the Scholastic book fairs.
Fifth Grade Recognition
Next: June 2022
This annual tradition is held at the end of the school year for all fifth grade students to celebrate their "graduation" from McKee Elementary. Any Fifth Grade parents are welcome to volunteer.
Other PTA Events
Next: September 2022
The annual Walk-a-Thon is a fun, healthy, fundraising event for McKee PTA. McKee students are asked to gather family and friends to sponsor them as they walk laps around our soccer field. This is a great way to donate to the PTA without having to buy anything!
The event is held during the school day. Different grades are assigned time slots for their walk, and families are welcome to attend.
Family Bingo Night
Next: May 20th 2022
Each year, the PTA sponsors an exciting, prize-filled evening of Bingo for all McKee students and their families. While enjoying a fun night out with the family, you can also support the PTA: 100% of your Bingo donations go to the PTA!
This after-school enrichment opportunity is typically held during the Wednesdays in March. In the past, we have had programs such as Lego Space Wars, Pottery Painting, Ninja Training Academy, and Stop Motion Filmmaking. Children will enroll in a single course, then participate in four different classes related to that course, one during each Wednesday session.
The Homeroom Helpers program matches teachers with parent volunteers that are interested and able to help with various classroom activities throughout the year. Our goal is to find at least one Classroom Coordinator per teacher. The role of the Classroom Coordinator is to plan classroom parties (Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day), and to coordinate with other parents in the classroom as needed.
Used Toy Drive
Next: December 2022
In December, PTA hosts a Used Toy Drive in conjunction with Play It Forward Pittsburgh! McKee Elementary becomes a drop-off location for Play It Forward, giving parents a chance to clean out the playroom before Christmas! The PTA collects donations at the school and then delivers them to Play It Forward, who ensures that they go to good homes during holiday season.
Next: Cancelled for 2022

All McKee students are eligible to participate in the Washington Wild Things Reading Club! Every student that meets his/her AR Goal for the month of April (Kindergarten and First Graders must complete their 2 book reports) earn a free ticket to a Washington Wild Things baseball game.
Just when the weather is starting to get nice, and the school year is coming to an end…this is a reminder that there are still a couple of months left! We want the kids to finish strong, meet those Reading goals, and have a great time at a Wild Things game!!
Next: December 2022
Santa's Workshop comes to McKee Elementary's LGI Room in early December. McKee students have the opportunity to shop for affordable gifts for family, friends, and even pets! Parent volunteers help the students select gifts and wrap them.
McKee Talent Show
Next: April 28th 2022
Mckee Talent Show is a great event that the children look forward to each year to show off their talents. The talent show is typically held in January at the high school. Anyone can participate in the Talent Show, from Kindergarten on up! Talents that we've had in the past include singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, gymnastics routines, whistling, skits, etc.
Shoeboxes for Soldiers
In order to show our appreciation for all that our Veterans have sacrificed for us, McKee PTA has paired up with Vietnam Veterans Incorporated to collect items for their Shoeboxes for Soldiers program. The collection is generally held in early May so that the items can be distributed to our local Veterans in time for Memorial Day.
A family night that lets McKee students and their families explore how much fun math can be! This FREE event features Math Games for all to play, Fun Photo Opportunities, Math Music, Special Guest Gamers, and more!
Next: March 2023
Arts Alive is an art fair that transforms our gym and cafeteria into an art gallery featuring artwork from McKee students. In addition, families and friends have the opportunity to enjoy musical performances by each grade level that were learned in their individual music classes.
Junior Achievement is a fun national project that brings parent volunteers into the classroom to present five grade-level appropriate lessons focusing on business and economics. Junior Achievement provides the lesson plans and all of the needed materials. McKee's goal is to present Junior Achievement during the months of March and April, as it fits into both the volunteer's and the teacher's schedules. One parent volunteer is needed for each classroom.
Due to low participation and in response to our PTA Survey responses, the PTA Directory will no longer be generated as a document and emailed to those participating. The PTA Directory information can still be accessed online. Visit our Directory page to perform an online Directory search.
The Hospitality committee organizes and provides refreshments for events throughout the year, such as the PTA Meet-n-Greet in September, the Christmas Chorus concert, and Teacher Appreciation week in May.
Reflections is a national art recognition program for students that is sponsored by the National PTA. At the local level, students submit entries that are recognized, judged, and then advanced to the state level of competition.
Note: Due to lack of participation in recent years, PTA has decided not to participate in the Reflections program this year.
