McKee Supports the Community

McKee PTA participates in several charitable programs in an effort to teach our students about the importance of giving back to our community.

Play It Forward

Used Toy Drive

Next: December 1-3 (4-8pm)

In December, PTA hosts a Used Toy Drive in conjunction with Play It Forward Pittsburgh! Play It Forward is a gently used children’s toy drive. McKee Elementary becomes a drop-off location for Play It Forward, giving parents a chance to clean out the playroom before Christmas! The PTA collects donations at the school and then delivers them to Play It Forward, who ensures that they go to good homes during holiday season.

Items that we collect include gently used toys, books, games, electronics, sports equipment, and DVD movies.

Play It Forward does NOT accept stuffed animals.

(Please organize and bag your toys together so that pieces don’t get separated.  Try to donate complete sets and toys in good condition so that they’re ready to go to a new home.)

This year’s collection will be held during the McKee Holiday Shoppe at North Fayette Community Center.  Please look for boxes in the lobby.

Shoeboxes for Soldiers

Next Collection: TBD (Cancelled for May 2020)

In order to show our appreciation for all that our Veterans have sacrificed for us, McKee PTA has paired up with Vietnam Veterans Incorporated to collect items for their Shoeboxes for Soldiers program. The collection is generally held in early May so that the items can be distributed to our local Veterans in time for Memorial Day.

The event kicks off at school when the kids get to meet a Real Soldier at school! George Coppola, a local Oakdale resident from Vietnam Veteran’s Incorporated, visits the school and talks to the kids about the people that will receive the shoeboxes. He explains to them how much the items mean to the veterans because many of them have no family and some are homeless. These shoeboxes make a huge difference in their lives!

Our Donation History:

2019: 52 shoeboxes

2018: 70 shoeboxes

2017: 72 shoeboxes

Thank you to all that have donated!
